LDWA Grasmere - Fells, Tarns & Gingerbread Route - Easter Sunday 8th April 2012

This is a very popular event which I have yet to run in; I have been told the route is great so decide to head out for a recce of it.

The weather is a bit mixed but I am soon heading out of Grasmere and up to Alcock Tarn, a great vantage point. From here, then cut across the fell to join the Horseshoe between Nab Scar and Heron Pike. Over Heron, then Great Rigg before the steady climb to Fairfield. Here it is cold, misty and a little wet so do not wait around, head West (checking compass) and steep scree decent to Grisedale Hause.

From here down to the A591 but on a different route to the OCT, this event takes the higher path which then descends Little Tongue. It has now turned wet but decide to carry on up Green Burn and an ascent to the ridge which joins Calf Crag and Helm Crag. Along the ridge to the popular summit of Helm Crag, the weather has now cleared.

Double back to the Hause and then descend South West in to Far Easedale. Then up to Easedale Tarn, I recall when I was last here....with Russ in the Saunders last year, it must have been at least 20c warmer then...and perhaps too hot.

The weather is not great and I decide to head back down the main path to Grasmere.....coffee and cake is calling ! A good run out, I will be back again to complete the last section over Silver Howe and Loughrigg soon.
