Had not intended to run today but late afternoon I accept an invitation to recce the first stage of the Joss Naylor Challenge. It is windy and I expect rain but this holds off until the last 15 minutes !
It is steady running from Pooley Bridge to Arthur's Pike and then on to Loadpot Hill and Wether Hill. There is little descent between these fells, they just gradually get higher the further south the ridge leads. There are one or two intervening summits but the next main top is High Raise, just a little off the Roman Road. From here a contour leads to Kidsty Pike and then Rampsgill Head.
Soon after we join the main path that leads onto High Street and now familiar IHR route to Thornthwaite Beacon and then Stony Cove Pike. Pike How is a very minor top on the way to Ravens Edge, this would need concentration if the mist was down.
It was at about this point that the rain started heavy too, so a quick dash to Kirkstone and my car, just wish I had the camper there, it would be so much easier to get changed and make coffee in than the back of my car !
So out for 3:10, just about on schedule and including some time looking at the map and checking various lines.
