It should have been the Causey Pike fell race today but due to the ongoing snow and ice on the fells the route si revised and becomes the Outerside Chase; well done to Keswick AC for coming up with a B plan.
It is a Club Champs race so I am expecting to see a lot of Helm runners and some serious competition; this is not the case, just 3 of us, 2 men and 1lady; a real shame but it has its advantages !
However, there is a big field and a strong field for this short race, just 4.5miles and 1,500' of ascent. The race starts promptly at 1 and heads up the lane and on to the fell. A quick scramble through the river and up a bank leads to the main track up Stoneycroft.
This is a rough track and I'm not sure if my Inov-8 Oroc's are the best choice ! The route is marshalled and they direct us right up a short climb to the first checkpoint on Stilend. The ground is part frozen, part thawed and very little snow and ice here.
Good running leads to Outside and checkpoint 2, I don't feel I am running that well and I get passed by a few on the steep heathery descent to the track. From here, fast running back down Stonycoft, cross the beck and down the lane.
A good little race and talk of it becoming an evening fixture near year; a good idea. Results:
